Stanton Leads Junior Amateur, Four Tied for Girls' Amateur Lead
Round One Conducted Monday at Awarii Dunes Golf Club
AXTELL (June 10, 2024) - Four players are tied for the lead at the 24th Nebraska Girls' Amateur Championship and Lincoln's Maguire Stanton leads the 57th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship after the first round at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell on Monday.
Stanton fired the low round of the day, a 68 (-4), to take the lead by two strokes. The four at the top of the girls' leaderboard includes defending champion Julia Karmazin of Omaha, Isabella Elgert of Lincoln, Elly Honnens of Lincoln and Camryn Johnson of Berwyn. They all posted rounds of 73 (+1) and are four strokes ahead of the next competitors.
Stanton, a recent graduate of Lincoln East, had a wild round that included just five pars. He made seven birdies and an eagle, but made five bogeys. Stanton was one of just four players under par during the first round.
The 2022 Champion Trevor Gutschewski of Omaha is two strokes back after a 70 (-2). Nash Malone of Kearney and Tommy Kelley of Omaha also broke par, shooting rounds of 71 (-1).
Four players are tie for fifth at 72 (E), including the 2022 Nebraska Junior Match Play Champion Jackson Benge of Omaha. Joining him at even-par is Drake Hull of Fremont, Reid Styskal of Lincoln and Emmanuel Jensen of York.
The defending champion, Beau Petersen of Gretna, is five strokes back at 73 (+1), tied for ninth with Jaxson Hinze of Waco, Jackson Luebbe of Fremont, Jacob Cosimano of Omaha and Max Moss of Lincoln.
Outside of the four players tied for the lead on the girls side, Lincoln's Naryn Kim and Eden Larson are tied for fifth at 77 (+5), four strokes back. KayLynn Jorgensen of Minden is seventh after a 78 (+6) and Brooke Thiele of Wahoo is eighth at 80 (+8).
Olivia Lovegrove of Lincoln shot an 81 (+9) and is ninth, while Fremont's Ansley Giesselmann rounds out the top 10 at 84 (+12).
