Garner and Swegle Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur

Qualifying Conducted on Monday at Beatrice Country Club

BEATRICE (August 19, 2024) - Davis Garner of Ogden, Utah and Jeff Swegle of Dallas, Texas advanced through qualifying for the 43rd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, earning their spots at Beatrice Country Club on Monday.

Garner, a former Bellevue University golfer, shot a round of 69 (-3) to earn medalist honors and the first of two qualifying spots. He had a nearly clean round, making just one bogey, to go along with two birdies and an eagle.

Swegle earned his spot through a playoff, after he finished tied with two others at 70 (-2). Lincoln's Jay Moore and Norwalk, Iowa's Gene Elliott matched Swegle's round and the three went into a playoff for the final spot.

Elliott made bogey on the first playoff hole to drop out of contention. He is the second alternate. Swegle and Moore parred the first hole, and both birdied the second hole. Swegle, a former Stanford Cardinal, finally took the spot with a birdie on the third playoff hole. Moore is the first alternate.

Garner and Swegle will play next at the 43rd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, September 21-26.
