Field Set for 26th Nebraska Senior Amateur
Championship Begins Thursday at Wayne Country Club
OMAHA (June 18, 2024) - Seven past champions are in the field for the 26th Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship at Wayne Country Club, beginning Thursday.
The field of 95 players includes Lincoln's David Ringler, who won last year's championship to capture his first NebGolf title. Ringler shot the lowest first round in championship history last year, a 67 (-4), to jump out to a lead and eventually won by four strokes. Ringler will be joined by the 2008 Nebraska Amateur Champion, Jayson Brueggemann of Lincoln, and the 2020 Nebraska Senior Match Play Champion, Kirby Smith of Omaha, at 12:30 p.m. off No. 1.
John Sajevic of Fremont, who is also in the field this week, has won the title a record four times, first in 2008 and three times since 2016. Sajevic is paired with another past champion, David Clouse of Lincoln, the 2010 Champion. They'll play alongside a multiple NebGolf Champion, who is still looking for his first win on the senior circuit, Patrick Duffy of Omaha. Duffy won the 2006 Nebraska Match Play title, and is a three-time Nebraska Mid-Amateur Champion. The three will tee off No. 1 at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Lincoln's Ed Wyatt is also competing this year. He won the championship after a nine-hole playoff in 2020, and defended it in 2021, shooting 142 (-2) to claim a 1-stroke victory. Wyatt finished runner-up for the second year in a row to Ringler in 2023. Omaha's Ryan Knispel and Lincoln's Scott Howerter, the 1984 Nebraska Match Play Champion, will join Wyatt at 8:50 a.m. off No. 10.
The 2022 Champion Brian Csipkes of Gretna is back as well, coming off a second-straight win at the Nebraska Senior Match Play last year. He's been in the mix at every senior championship since turning 50.
Two-time Champion Mike Krumland of Columbus (2006, 2014) is back to compete again, and will be joined by a couple other past NebGolf Champions at 8:40 a.m. off No. 10. The 2018 Nebraska Senior Match Play Champion, Matt Haynes of Bellevue, and the 1987 Nebraska Match Play Champion, Bill Spangler of Lincoln.
