Local qualifying for the 124th U.S. Open at Omaha Country Club concluded Wednesday with four golfers with Nebraska ties advancing to final qualifying next month. Omaha brothers, Alex and Carson Schaake, shared medalist honors at four-under par 67. Both golfers advanced from local qualifying at OCC in previous years before earning a spot in the U.S. Open through final qualifying. The final two spots were claimed through a play-off. Nate Vontz of Lincoln (-2) made par on the first play-off hole to earn his spot. Former Husker, Gentry Scheve (-2) of Emporia, Kansas, birdied the second play-off hole for spot number four. Millard North's Sam Vocelka of Omaha (-2) is the first alternate. Ryan Nietfeldt of Omaha is the second alternate (-1). The 2024 U.S. Open which will be conducted at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (Course No. 2) in the Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina, June 13-16.
Entries are open to male and female professional golfers, amateur golfers, and applicants for reinstatement. Amateurs and applicants for reinstatement must have an up-to-date Handicap Index® based on ratings for men not exceeding 0.4 under the Rules of Handicapping. A current Handicap ID number (GHIN) issued through an authorized golf club is required and must be submitted on the entry form.
Amateur Status: All amateur players must conform to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by the United States Golf Association and The R&A.
Performance in Local Qualifying: If a player fails to return a score within 12 strokes of the Course Rating™, future entries for a U.S. Open Championship may be declined if documentation is not provided demonstrating that the player is capable of competing at the national championship level. Please note that players who “no card” are subject to receive a letter from the USGA under the same guidelines as those who do not return a score within 12 strokes of the Course Rating. Players who shoot 15 or more strokes above the course rating for 9-holes may be withdrawn from the qualifier.
Withdrawal from Qualifying: Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. They must also notify the Official in Charge prior to their scheduled Qualifying round. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from future USGA competitions.
The qualifying entry fee of $200 must be paid by players who participate at a qualifying location. Players who qualify for the championship will be charged an additional fee of $100 within 72 hours of the start of the championship. The fee is non-refundable. The wait list fee of $10 must be paid by players that select to join a wait list. The fee is non-refundable. Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. Players who withdraw prior to close of entries will receive a $150 refund regardless of reason. Players who withdraw after the close of entries and by 10:59 PM CDT 72 hours before the qualifier will receive a refund of $100 regardless of reason. Players who withdraw after 10:59 PM CDT 72 hours before the qualifier will not receive a refund.
ENTRY APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY USGA NO LATER THAN 4 P.M. C.D.T. on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024. Late applications are not acceptable and will be automatically rejected. (Entries by telephone, telegraph, mail or FAX are not acceptable.) Time limit for entries means time of receipt at USGA (not time entry is transmitted to USGA). Entries should be submitted early to allow ample time for delay or error in transmission. The risk of delay or error in transmission lies solely with the entrant and the USGA will have no liability with respect to any such delay or error and the consequences therefrom, including rejection of the entry.
Local Qualifying: 18-holes, at stroke play.
Local Qualifying: Silver medal awarded to lowest score; if a tie, duplicate medals will be awarded.
Nebgolf will post Stroke Play scores for all competitors in the field who have a Handicap Index® issued by the USGA.
Qualifying Places
78 players will be competing for four (4) qualifying places and two (2) alternate positions. A tie for the last qualifier's place, or an alternate's place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off.
Practice Rounds
Calls for practice rounds will not be accepted until April 1. When that date arrives practice rounds can be arranged by contacting Golf Professional, Dominick Mitchum at 402-571-7470 or email dmitchum@omahacc.org; Each participant is limited to 1 practice round, the fee is $95 (does not include cart); one non-participant guest is permitted for the normal club guest fee of $250. Upon arrival for your practice round, please use the bag drop and check in at the Golf Shop; The club asks that participants limit use of the practice facility to pre-round only up to one hour prior to your starting time.
