Team Nebraska Set for 2021 Director's Cup

OMAHA (August 31, 2021) – The 11th Director’s Cup Matches are set for next week at Dismal River Club in Mullen. The biennial event, scheduled for September 7-9, pits top amateur golfers from Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri in a team Match Play format.

This goodwill competition is staged every other year and consists of round-robin Four-Ball, Foursomes and Singles matches. With the addition of Missouri for the 2015 matches, teams now consist of six players each.

The selection of the six-man Nebraska Director's Cup team is based upon the final Director’s Cup Team Standings. The Director’s Cup Team Standings are determined by combining a player’s previous year’s point total with his current year's points (through August 29) multiplied by 1.5. Those golfers ranked in the top four of the Director’s Cup Standings qualify for the team. The Nebraska Golf Association Board of Directors has granted the NGA Tournament Committee the right to select the remainder of the team, including replacements for qualifiers. The Nebraska team is listed below.

NEBRASKA TEAM MEMBERS
Bill Amundsen, Bennington; Jay Moore, Lincoln; Ryan Nietfeldt, Elkhorn; Andy Sajevic, Omaha; Johnny Spellerberg, Bennington; Scott Tridle, Lincoln.

Nebraska's squad includes four NGA champions, including four-time Nebraska Amateur Champion Andy Sajevic of Omaha, making his second team. The team also features Bennington's Johnny Spellerberg, who is coming off a win at the 23rd Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship last weekend. Elkhorn's Ryan Nietfeldt, a three-time Nebraska Mid-Amateur Champion and a nine-time NGA Champion, is back on the squad for a sixth straight selection, and a seventh overall. Two-time Nebraska Four-Ball Champion Scott Tridle is on the team for the third time, also playing in 2011 and 2013. Lincoln's Jay Moore has made the team again, after competing in 2019, while Bennington's Bill Amundsen is making his second appearance.

The competition begins Wednesday with morning Four-Ball matches, followed by afternoon Foursome Matches. Singles Matches on Thursday conclude the event, with the team with the most points claiming the Cup. A practice round on Tuesday, precedes the event. The White (Nicklaus) Course at Dismal River Club will be used for the competition, measuring just over 7,000 yards.

Iowa holds the Cup after winning the 2019 Director’s Cup Matches at St. Joseph Country Club in Country Club, Missouri. Nebraska leads the overall series, having won four times, while Iowa is second with three wins, Kansas has won twice, and Missouri once.
