Sajevic, Moore Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur
OMAHA (August 11, 2021) – Lincoln’s Jay Moore and Omaha’s Andy Sajevic punched their tickets to the 40th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship on Wednesday through qualifying at The Players Club in Omaha.
Sajevic fired a 66 (-5), to earn medalist honors and one of two qualifying spots. Moore was not far behind, posting a 68 (-3) to earn the second qualifying spot. While Sajevic has competed in several USGA Championships, including the 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur, this will be Moore’s first appearance.
Sajevic had poured in six birdies, and was six-under heading into the difficult par-3 16th. That's where the first blemish of his round came with a double-bogey. He bounced back quickly with a birdie on No. 17 and par on No.18 to secure his spot.
Moore carded three birdies, before his one and only bogey of the round on No. 14. Like Sajevic, Moore quickly returned to form with a birdie on No.17 and par on No. 18 to get in at 3-under.
Ross Macdonald of Castle Rock, Colorado is the first alternate following a 69 (-2) performance. The final alternate spot was decided in a two-for-one playoff between Lincoln’s David Easley and Bennington’s Johnny Spellerberg. Easley hit his approach tight and sank the birdie putt on No. 17 for the spot.
