Field Set for 10th Nebraska Senior Match Play
Championship Begins Monday at York Country Club
OMAHA (September 11, 2020) - The field is set for the 10th Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship at York Country Club, September 14-16, and it includes three past champions.
The defending champion, and reigning Nebraska Senior Amateur Champion, Ed Wyatt of Lincoln highlights a strong field of competitors. Wyatt captured his first title last year at Hillcrest Country Club, and then followed with a win in a grueling, nine-hole playoff at the Nebraska Senior Amateur at Norfolk Country Club last month. He currently holds both NGA senior titles, but will face some tough competition in his quest for a third straight.
Wyatt will play with a couple of other past champions in Stroke Play Qualifying on Monday. He's scheduled for 10 a.m. off No. 1 along with the 2018 Champion Matt Haynes of Papillion and four-time Champion Mike Krumland of Columbus. Krumland won four of the first Nebraska Senior Match Plays, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017, but hasn't made it past the first round the past two years.
Four-time Nebraska Senior Amateur Champion John Sajevic of Fremont is back in one of the NGA championships he hasn't won yet. Sajevic finished runner-up to Wyatt last year, his second such finish at this championship. A win would give him his 11th NGA title, breaking a tie for the most men's titles all-time.
Sajevic will play with Harris Frankel of Omaha and Eric Murphy of Papillion, who fell in the nine-hole playoff to Wyatt last month at the Nebraska Senior Amateur.
The championship features an 18-hole Stroke Play Qualifier on Monday, with the top 16 making the Championship Bracket. Match Play begins on Tuesday, with the Final scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. The championship will be played at York Country Club for the first time. The par-70 layout will measure 6,118 yards for the Championship Division. Those in the Gross Division not making the Championship Bracket are seeded into the President's Bracket, while the Net Division will feature another bracket. Play begins Monday with starting times off No. 1 from 9 - 11:10 a.m.
Pairings for the qualifying round are available on the championship website below, along with the scoring page and additional information.
