Kansas-Nebraska Junior Cup Sites Announced
OMAHA (March 29, 2019) – Both the Nebraska Golf Association and the Kansas Golf Association are pleased to announce the host venues for the 2019 and 2020 Kansas-Nebraska Junior Cup Matches. The 2019 matches will be conducted at Omaha Country Club, August 6-8, while the 2020 matches will take place at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The event annually pits the best juniors from each state in Foursome, Four-Ball and Singles matches. After Kansas won the cup seven straight years, Nebraska took back the cup in 2018 for the first time since 2010. Kansas leads the series 19-14.
Omaha Country Club, site of the 2013 and 2021 U.S. Senior Open, has hosted the Junior Cup once before in 1999, when Nebraska triumphed 10-6. The course is just coming off some renovations in preparation for the 2021 U.S. Senior Open and will provide a great test and an exciting venue for match play.
Prairie Dunes Country Club has hosted the matches twice before, including in 1990 and 2010. Nebraska won both of those occasions. The club is currently ranked 27th in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Golf Courses in the U.S., and has also hosted a U.S. Senior Open (2006), as well as a U.S. Women’s Open (2002) and several other USGA championships. Both Omaha Country Club and Prairie Dunes Country Club were originally Perry Maxwell designs, though both have been touched by other architects over the years.
Aurora’s Craig Badura will captain the Nebraska team for the second time in 2019. Badura coaches the boys golf team at Aurora High School and led them to the Class B team title in 2017. Manager of Association Services Ben Vigil will be the team manager. Prairie Dunes member Rusty Hilst of Hutchinson will again captain the Kansas team.
The 2019 matches begin Wednesday, August 7 with Four-Ball and Foursome matches, followed by Singles matches on Thursday, August 8. A practice round precedes the matches on Tuesday, August 6. Link to the Junior Cup website for more.
