NebGolf Announces 2024 Championship Schedule

Entries open March 1 on nebgolf.org

OMAHA (January 15, 2024) – Entries open for the Nebraska Golf Association’s championships on March 1, and the schedule is full of opportunities for golfers of all ages to compete at some of the top courses across the state.

The 2024 schedule includes new premiere sites for the women's championships, and a return to some historic sites for the men's majors. There are now 14 championships available for NebGolf members to compete in, including four in which full exemptions into USGA championships are now available. The champions of the Nebraska Amateur, Nebraska Women's Amateur, Nebraska Junior Amateur and Nebraska Girls' Amateur will all advance to the respective USGA championships in 2024.

After celebrating the 100th edition of the Nebraska Women's Match Play in 2023, another milestone will be made in women's golf in 2024. The 50th Nebraska Women's Amateur Championship will be conducted at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, June 4-6. It will be the 13th NebGolf championship hosted by Oak Hills, but the first since 2008. The Nebraska Women's Amateur has been staged there twice before, first in 1979 when Omaha's Nanette Circo defended for back-to-back titles. The club hosted again in 2002, when Lincoln's Sarah Sasse-Kildow won her fifth title in six years.

In addition, the 46th Nebraska Women's Senior Amateur Championship will be conducted concurrently at Oak Hills. After sharing a weekend with the Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur in 2023, the newest addition to the NebGolf schedule will now be conducted along with the Women's Amateur. The Senior Amateur field will play 36-holes of stroke play on June 5-6.

The 101st Nebraska Women's Match Play Championship will fittingly be conducted on a first-time host course, Landmand Golf Club in Homer, July 23-26. The club opened in 2022, and hosted the Nebraska Mid-Amateur the past two years, but will host a women's championship for the first time. The second-oldest championship in Nebraska, now in its second century, will have a special match play venue in Landmand, which has received several accolades since opening.

NebGolf's oldest championship will return to Fremont Golf Club for the sixth time, July 16-19. The 116th Nebraska Amateur Championship will move Fremont Golf Club into a tie for sixth in times hosting the championship, and will be the 35th overall NebGolf championship conducted at the club, fourth all-time. The club last hosted in 2018, when Omaha's Alex Schaake cruised to win his third of four-straight titles by an impressive nine-stroke margin.

The 57th Nebraska Match Play Championship will also have a historic venue, with The Country Club of Lincoln hosting for a record sixth time. The championship is scheduled for June 24-28 and will also be a record-tying 39th NebGolf championship hosted by the club, matching Beatrice Country Club's total. The last time the championship was staged at the club, Lincoln's Bryce Brown defeated Omaha's Carson Schaake in the Final, 2 and 1. Brown joined an impressive list of champions at the club, including Lincoln's Knox Jones in 1979 and 2000, Omaha's James Sieckmann in 1988 and North Platte's Charlie Borner in 1970.

The 23rd Nebraska Four-Ball Championship will return to Tatanka Golf Club in Niobrara for a second-straight year on May 3-4. The field has filled within the first hour of entries opening the past few years.

The 26th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship also returns to a familiar site, Platteview Golf Club in Bellevue, August 24-25. The club hosted in 2016, when Omaha's Patrick Duffy won, and in 2010, when Lincoln's Travis Minzel won. Both Duffy and Minzel own three titles, tied for the most all-time. Bennington's Johnny Spellerberg became the first to win three-straight titles last year, and could break the tie with Duffy, Minzel and Elkhorn's Ryan Nietfeldt for the most total titles.

The 4th Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur is scheduled for September 28-29 at The Pines Country Club in Valley. It will be the first time hosting for the club, though it has hosted several other championships. Women 25-years-and-older are eligible to compete in the competition. In addition to the championship competition, the field will be flighted after the first round.

NebGolf's senior championships are also set, with the 26th Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship at Wayne Country Club, June 20-21. The 14th Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship will take place at Oakland Golf Club for the first time, September 18-20.

The 2024 schedule also features championships for junior golfers. The 62nd Nebraska Girls’ Match Play Championship and the 35th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship will be conducted at Norfolk Country Club, July 8-11. Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell will be the venue for both the 24th Nebraska Girls’ Amateur Championship and the 57th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship, June 10-12.

Entries for all championships will officially open at 8 a.m. on March 1 for these championships. For more information on the NebGolf’s championships, visit the Competitions section below.
