UNK, Bellevue University Lead at Nebraska Intercollegiate
Round One Conducted Friday at Awarii Dunes Golf Club
AXTELL (October 6, 2023) - The first round of the 2023 Nebraska Intercollegiate was conducted on Friday at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, and the University of Nebraska-Kearney leads the women's division, while Bellevue University holds the lead in the men's race.
UNK had three of the top five individual scores during the first round, and leads by six strokes with a 321 (+33) total. The Lopers lead over Wayne State College (+39), the two-time defending championships at the Nebraska Intercollegiate.
Junior Brooke King led the Lopers, firing a round of 74 (+2) to also take the lead in the individual race. She made two birdies during her round and is two strokes clear of the next player, Abbigail Brodersen of Wayne State College, who shot a 76 (+4).
Two other players are inside the top five for the Lopers, including Juliana Botero, who is fourth after a 79 (+7). Allison Comer is tied for fifth after an 82 (+10). Wayne State also has three players in the top five, with Saffire Sayre in third at 78 (+6) and Jazmine Taylor tied with Comer at 82 (+10).
On the men's side, Bellevue posted a first round 302 (+14) to take the lead by eight strokes over Southeast Community College, which came in with a 310 (+22). Freshman Dylan Rodgers was the only player to break par and leads the individual race for the Bruins. He posted a round of 70 (-2) and leads by two strokes. Rodgers made eight birdies during his round, and didn't make a single par on the front nine with six birdies and three bogeys.
Two other Bruins were inside the top 10 to boost the team to the lead, including Sam Johnson, who shot a 74 (+2) and is tied for fourth. Totte Uhlan shot a 78 (+6) and is tied for ninth for Bellevue.
Southeast has two players in the mix for the individual title as well, with Luke Strako in second after a 72 (E) and Thomas Gatlin in third with a 73 (+1).
