Csipkes is Nebraska Senior Golfer of the Year

First Award for New Senior Golfer

OMAHA (November 21, 2022) - The Nebraska Golf Association is proud to announce the selection of Gretna's Brian Csipkes as the 2022 Nebraska Senior Amateur Golfer of the Year.

In his first full year of senior golf, Csipkes was dominant, pulling off just the second senior sweep in NGA history. He won his first two NGA titles this summer and caps the year off with his first Golfer of the Year award.

Csipkes kicked off his season by winning the 24th Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship in his first try. He opened with a round of 71 (-1) at Champions Run in Omaha to take the first round lead. Csipkes then played his final four holes in 1-under to secure a one-stroke victory after a 73 (+1), finishing with a 144 (E) total. After several close calls and runner-up finishes, it was his first NGA title.

In September, at the 12th Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship, Csipkes looked to join Mike Krumland of Columbus as the only players to sweep both senior titles. He would face a gauntlet on the way though, surviving in 18 holes over Omaha's Charlie Burt, 1 up, in the Round of 16 and then facing three past champions on the way to the title. Csipkes took down the 2019 Champion, Ed Wyatt of Lincoln, 2 and 1, in the Quartefinals, then cruised to a 4-and-3 win over the 2021 Champion and No. 1 seed, John Sajevic of Fremont. He faced another past champion in the Final, the 2016 Champion Jay Muller of Omaha. After a back-and-forth match, Csipkes birdied the 17th hole to take the lead and won 1-up after a par on No. 18.

Csipkes was the lowest senior golfer at the 114th Nebraska Amateur Championship at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, finishing tied for 12th with a 292 (+8) total. He also tied for 20th at the 24th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship at Landmand Golf Club in Homer, and was tied for 11th with partner William Amundsen of Bennington at the 21st Nebraska Four-Ball Championship at The Players Club in Omaha.

Csipkes will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Association's annual awards banquet on Friday, December 2 at The Field Club of Omaha. In addition, the NGA will recognize its Amateur Golfer of the Year, Women’s Amateur Golfer of the Year, Girls’ Amateur Golfer of the Year and Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year.
