Bostar Runs Away for Back-to-Back Women's Mid-Amateur Titles

Final Round Conducted Sunday at Fremont Golf Club

FREMONT (September 25, 2022) - Lincoln's Carrie Bostar ran away from the field during a blustery final round to win the 2nd Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Fremont Golf Club on Sunday.

Wind was a major factor on Sunday and scoring conditions were difficult, but Bostar didn't have any trouble making pars. She posted a 75 (+4) to cruise to a 12-stroke win with a 152 (+10) total. Bostar received the Laura Saf Memorial trophy for the second consecutive year.

Bostar opened her round with five-straight pars to overtake the lead, which was held by Bellevue's Kayla Barnes after the first round. Barnes struggled on the greens to start the round, and was eight-over through her first six holes. With most of the field also losing strokes, Bostar only had one blemish on her scorecard through the first eight holes, a bogey on No. 6.

The difficult par-4 ninth hole showed its teeth to the final group though, as all three players, Bostar, Barnes and Deana Morehouse of Papillion, made double-bogey. That's where Bostar turned up the heat though. She stuck her tee shot on the par-3 10th to five feet and rolled in her first birdie of the round.

Bostar rolled in another birdie from off the green on No. 12 and then converted an up-and-down from just short of the par-5 15th green for a final birdie. The birdies helped her coast into the clubhouse for the win.

Barnes also made three back nine birdies, on Nos. 13, 15 and 16, heating up down the stretch. However, big numbers kept her from chasing down Bostar. She posted a final round 88 (+17) to finish runner-up at 164 (+22).

Morehouse finished strong with back nine 41 (+5), and moved into a tie with Barnes at one point. She finished with an 86 (+15) to take third at 166 (+24).

Jen Teusink of Elkhorn shot an 86 (+15) to finish fourth at 168 (+26), while Lindsay Eggers of Omaha rounded out the top 5 at 169 (+27) after an 84 (+13).

Omaha's Ande Johnson and Elizabeth Wanek tied for first in Flight 1 at 172 (+30). Jill Pilkington of Lincoln was the only player other than Bostar to break 80 on Sunday, shooting a 79 (+8) to win Flight 2 with a 174 (+32) total.
