Stellar Four Left at Nebraska Senior Match Play

Round of 16 and Quarterfinals Conducted Wednesday at Wild Horse Golf Club

GOTHENBURG (September 21, 2022) - A stellar four players are left at the 12th Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship, after two rounds of matches on Wednesday at Wild Horse Golf Club.

Those four players include the defending champion and No. 1 seed, John Sajevic of Fremont. He rolled through both of his matches, needing just 27 holes to close out his opponents. Sajevic defeated Eric Sullivan of Fremont, 5 and 4, in the Round of 16, and then cruised past Plainview's Tim Knaak in the Quarterfinals, 6 and 5.

Sajevic will play the reigning Nebraska Senior Amateur Champion, Brian Csipkes of Gretna in the Semifinals. Csipkes faced two tough challenges to advance. He lost four of the first six holes to Omaha's Charlie Burt in the Round of 16, but battled back to win six of the next seven holes and eventually won the match, 1 up. Then, he faced the 2019 Champion Ed Wyatt of Lincoln and secured a 2-and-1 win. Csipkes is trying to become just the second player to win both senior titles in the same year. Krumland is the only player to accomplish the feat.

In the other semifinal, Lincoln's Jayson Brueggemann will take on Omaha's Jay Muller. Brueggemann, the 2008 Nebraska Amateur Champion, is in his second year on the senior circuit and defeated two players from Bellevue, including a past champion. Brueggemann won 3 and 2 over Tim Diehm, and then ousted the 2018 Champion Matt Haynes, 4 and 3.

Muller, the 2016 Champion, took out Bennington's Steve Buroker, who finished runner-up in 2020, 3 and 2. He then cruised to a 5-and-3 win over the 2020 Champion Kirby Smith of Omaha.

The Semifinals are scheduled for 8:48 a.m. (Sajevic and Csipkes) and 8:56 a.m. (Brueggemann and Muller). The Final will take place at 1:54 p.m. There are also Semifinals and Finals in five other brackets.

The brackets are available on the championship website below, along with the scoring page and additional information.
