Fremont Welcomes Back Women's Mid-Amateur Championship
Championship Begins Saturday at Fremont Golf Club
FREMONT (September 23, 2022) - A field of 19 players will compete in the 2nd Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur Championship this weekend at Fremont Golf Club.
The championship is for women 25-and-older, and will feature 36 holes of stroke play. In addition to the championship competition, the field will be flighted based on first round scores, and players will have an opportunity to win prizes within their flight.
This will mark the second time a player will receive the Laura Saf Trophy, named in honor of the first woman to serve on the NGA Board of Directors. Saf was a longtime board member and was a mentor for women's golf in Nebraska. She passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.
The inaugural champion, Carrie Bostar, won her first NGA title last year by three strokes, and was the only player to card a round under par. She finished T6 at the Nebraska Women's Amateur Championship earlier in the season. Bostar also advanced to the Quarterfinals at the Nebraska Women's Match Play, before being eliminated by Husker golfer Megan Whittaker, who would go on to take the crown.
Bostar is paired with Jill Pilkington of Lincoln and Anne Robertson of Columbus. Pilkington finished seventh last year, while Robertson finished third.
Two-time Nebraska Women's Amateur Champion Kayla Barnes of Bellevue is also in the field. She finished fourth last year, and is paired with Ande Johnson of Omaha and Deana Morehouse of Papillion.
The 36-hole stroke play championship begins at 1 p.m. with starting times off No. 1 on Saturday for Round One at Fremont Golf Club. The Final Round will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday with starting times off No. 1 again.
