Full Field Set for 24th Nebraska Senior Amateur
Championship Begins Wednesday at Champions Run in Omaha
OMAHA (June 28, 2022) - Eight previous champions have their sights set on the 24th Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship at Champions Run in Omaha, beginning Wednesday.
Among the decorated 78-player field is Lincoln's Ed Wyatt, who is looking for a three-peat after winning the championship by one stroke in 2021, and battling to a win after nine playoff holes in 2020. Wyatt became the third player to win back-to-back titles last year, and the fourth player to win more than once. John Sajevic of Fremont, who is in the field this week, has won the title a record-four times, winning it in 2008 and three times since 2016.
Six other previous champions join Wyatt and Sajevic in the field. Gary Bowen of Omaha (2001), Tom Olson of Omaha (2003), Dave Pfaltzgraff of Omaha (2004), Bill Lawson of Omaha (2009), and Mike Krumland of Columbus (2006, 2014), and Carl Johnson of Omaha (2017).
Several Senior Match Play Champions are hoping to add a stroke play title to their trophy cases as well. Omaha's Kirby Smith, who won the match play title in 2020, was runner-up in 2021 by only one stroke at Platteview Golf Club, and is joined by Papillion's Matt Haynes, who won the match play in 2019.
Other past NGA champions in the field include 2000 Nebraska Amateur Champion Ed Person of Omaha, 2000 Nebraska Mid-Amateur champion Skip Gist of Omaha and 2005 Nebraska Mid-Amateur Champion Rick Dusek of Omaha.
The championship features 36-holes of stroke play competition over two days, and will be played at Champions Run for the first time. The par-72 layout will measure 6,796 yards for the Championship Division, with age divisional competition also included. Play begins Wednesday with starting times off Nos. 1 and 10 from 1-3 p.m.
