NGA Announces 2019 championship schedule

Entries open March 1 on nebgolf.org

OMAHA (February 28, 2019) – Entries open for the Nebraska Golf Association’s men’s championships on March 1, and the schedule is packed with opportunities to compete at some of the top venues in the state.

The Country Club of Lincoln will host the 111th Nebraska Amateur Championship July 8-11. It will be the 12th time hosting the Nebraska Amateur for the club, which is the fourth-most all-time. Only Omaha Country Club, The Field Club of Omaha and Happy Hollow Club have hosted more times. The Country Club of Lincoln was the first club outside of Omaha to host the championship in 1924 and has been a regular host over the past century, last hosting in 2008 when Lincoln’s Jayson Brueggemann won.

The 52nd Nebraska Match Play Championship will be conducted at a first-time host club for the second-straight year. The Players Club in Omaha will host the championship for the first time on June 10-14, though the club has hosted six other NGA championships, including two Nebraska Senior Amateurs and a Nebraska Mid-Amateur. Both majors, the Nebraska Amateur and Nebraska Match Play, will be limited to 156 players with a maximum USGA Handicap Index of 8.0, as approved by the NGA Tournament Committee.

The Players Club will also host the Nebraska Four-Ball for the fourth time on April 27-28. The field size will be reduced back to 52 teams to help improve pace of play, and an individual Handicap Index limit of 9.0 will be implemented. The same Handicap Index limit will apply for the 21st Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship at Fremont Golf Club (September 28-29).

The NGA’s senior championships will also open March 1, including the 21st Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln (June 3-4) and the 9th Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln (September 17-19). The Senior Amateur will be limited to 78 entries, while the Senior Match Play is limited to 80 entries.

The NGA’s junior championships are also set, with entries opening on March 15. Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell will host the 57th Nebraska Girls’ Match Play Championship and the 30th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship June 17-20. Beatrice Country Club will be the venue for both the 19th Nebraska Girls’ Amateur Championship and the 52nd Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship, though the championships will be separated for 2019. The Junior Amateur will be played July 23-25, while the Girls’ Amateur will be the following week, July 30-31.
